OBITUARY


George L. Rice, 86, of Wilmington, Del., went to be with his Lord Monday, April 8, 2013, in his home.

He was born October 13, 1926, in Ellsworth, a son of the late Ralph and Sarah Baker Rice.

Mr. Rice retired from General Motors.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Rice was a member of Armstrong Lodge 26 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Newport, Del., and the Delaware Consistory.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 53 years, MaryAnn Basey Rice; three children, Victoria Rice, Virginia Powell and George Thomas Rice, his “special buddy,” who was always by his side; three brothers, James Rice (Betty) of California, Elmer Rice of Daisytown and David Rice of Roscoe; a sister, Alice Gedman of Roscoe; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, William and Ralph Rice; a sister, Marian Stasko; and a granddaughter.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, with the Rev. Andy Scott officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery. Monongahela Valley Lodge 461 F&AM will conduct services at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
