OBITUARY

Andrew Farkas, Sr., 89 of Daisytown, PA (Clover Hill) died Sunday, January 11, 2009 in his home.
He was born November 30, 1919 in Vestaburg, PA a son of the late Steve and Clara Lpisak Farkas.
Mr. Farkas was a veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Army as a sergeant from 1941 to 1945. He served in Africa, Italy and later Germany and for his service was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action and also a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars.
He had been employed as an underground coal miner for J & L Steel and also LTV Steel in Vesta #4 and #5 mines as a Chief Mine Electrician. He retired in 1980 after 37 years of service.
Mr. Farkas was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and enjoyed the outdoors and working on cars. 
On June 23, 1951 he married Pauline Bankey Farkas who survives. 
Also surviving are two sons, Andrew Farkas, Jr.and Steven Farkas and his wife Christy both of Clover Hill, PA and one daughter, Paula Renee Kveder of Bridgeville, PA; and two granddaughters, Pauline Moninger and Rebecca Farkas. He is the last of his immediate family.
Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother John Farkas and also a brother who died in infancy.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA where a prayer service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 15, 2009 with Rev. Jerome Botsko officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be accorded by the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post #705 of Centerville.
