Steve Vlanich

Longtime Mon Valley Hospital employee, church member

Steve Vlanich, 96, of Bentleyville, died Saturday, September 18, 2010, in his home.

He was born October 28, 1913, a son of the late Peter and Wilma Vlanich.

Mr. Vlanich retired from Mon Valley Hospital in 1983, at the age of 70. He had 28 years of service with the hospital, including the time he spent working in the former Monongahela Hospital.

During his working years, Mr. Vlanich held a number of different jobs including coal mining, owning and operating a service station in Bentleyville, refrigeration repairman and worked as a small appliance serviceman for Montgomery Ward for many years. From the age of 15 until his retirement, Mr. Vlanich always had a job.

He was a member of Bentleyville United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.

Gardening, tinkering and repairing items for his family and friends were his hobbies.

Surviving are three children, Donna Puskavich (Richard) of Ellsworth, Barry Vlanich (Kathleen Mancinelli) of Bentleyville and Joy Dunmire (Howard) of Monongahela; four grandchildren, Richard Puskavich, Lori Kirsch and Dennis and Jenna Dunmire; two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Rylee Kirsch; a brother, Milan Vlanich (Anna Marie) of Washington; several nieces and nephews; and present wife, Margaret Vlanich of New Eagle.

Deceased is his wife, Betty M. Shrader Vlanich, who died April 16, 1983. A brother, Frank Vlanich, and three sisters, Julia Kibelbek, Jennie Marshalek and Kathryn Vernallis also are deceased.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, with the Rev. Sang Choi officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Vlanich be made to Bentleyville United Methodist Church, 712 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
