Oscar Edwin Ames, 77, of Scenery Hill, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at 9:25 a.m. in Jefferson Hospital. He was born July 21, 1924, in Clover Hill, a son of the late John Oscar and Lucinda Phillips Ames. Mr. Ames was employed as a technician by Montgomery Ward for 30 years before retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II with the 389th Bomber Group in Hethel, England. Mr. Ames is survived by his wife, Florence "Penny" Ames, whom he married on March 17, 1945, in the Church of England, Norwich City, England; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Carol Ann) Havrilesko of Coal Center, Mrs. Robert (Hilda Ellen) Hazelbaker of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Timothy (Kimberly Sue) Galway; eight grandchildren, Rhonda Galway, Margaret Parks, Thomas Havrilesko II, Edwin Havrilesko, Robert Hazelbaker II, Shaun Hazelbaker, Stacy Galway and Jeremy Galway; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Grant (Edith) Morton of Coal Center, Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Bradshaw of Daisytown, Mrs. James (Emma Lou) Kistler of Coal Center, and Mrs. Charles (Etta) Kokoska of Daisytown; three brothers, Philip Ames and wife Donna of Scenery Hill, Francis Ames and wife Shirley of Coal Center, and Lloyd Ames and wife Sara of Eighty Four. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ames was preceded in death by one brother, John Emery "Jiggs" Ames, who died April 12, 1988. Friends will be received Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main St., Beallsville. Services will be held Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Barry Mohney officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
