Robert W. Pepper

World War II veteran was West Penn Power retiree

Robert W. Pepper, 85, of Coal Center, Clover Hill, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born August 16, 1925, in West Pike Run Township, a son of the late Glenn H. and Mary A. Phillips Pepper.

Mr. Pepper was a 1943 graduate of California High School.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Annapolis. He served in North Africa, Costa Rica and Alaska.

On September 1, 1989, he retired from West Penn Power as a lineman/meter reader, after 42 years of service. He had worked in the Brownsville, West Newton and Mon Valley divisions.

Mr. Pepper was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir, served as church treasurer, financial secretary of building fund and administrative board member.

He enjoyed playing dartball for the church, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

On November 18, 1944, he married Betty Lou Boozer Pepper, who died January 3, 2005.

Surviving are three children, Robert W. Pepper Jr. (Barbara) of Charleroi, Rebecca Carson of Canonsburg and John Glenn Pepper (Wendy) of Eighty Four; five grandchildren, Kimberly Pepper, Dr. Kraig Pepper (Lisa), John Carson (Jen), Jessica Prysi (Vern) and Jenny Carson; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Nyswaner of Beallsville; a stepbrother, Robert Leeper (June) of Burton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, is a brother, Paul Pepper

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, with the Rev. George Kennedy and Pastor Cliff Reynolds co-officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
