Eleanor Malinky Smolec

Former Bentleyville postal clerk

Eleanor Malinky Smolec, 85, formerly of Bentleyville, died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

She was born June 20, 1925, in Grindstone, a daughter of Joseph and Victoria Lanco Malinky.

Mrs. Smolec was a 1943 graduate of Bentleyville High School.

From October 1943 to August 30, 1980, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk at the Bentleyville Post Office.

She was a member of Ave Maria Parish, Bentworth Senior Citizens and the former Veterans of Foreign Wars 5454, all of Bentleyville.

Mrs. Smolec also was a member of American Postal Workers Union AFL-CIO and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

On September 20, 1947, she married Stanley A. Smolec, who died January 24, 1991.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Surviving are sisters-in-law Dolores Beck (Stanley) of Bentleyville and Violet Hedrick (James) of Eighty Four; a niece, Rose Marie Zemenick (the late Steve) of Canonsburg; and nephews Keith Yankowsky of Edmond, Okla., and Stanley Beck Jr. of Peachtree City, Ga.

Deceased is a brother, James Malinky.

Friends are welcome from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a blessing service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 27, with the Rev. Gary W. Krummert, pastor of Ave Maria Parish, officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bentleyville Public Library, 931 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314, or Ave Maria Parish, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
