Gerald S. Micjan

U.S. Army veteran, retired truck driver

Gerald S. (Jerry) Micjan, 72, of Coal Center, died Saturday, December 25, 2010.

He was born September 15, 1938, in East Pike Run Township, a son of the late Steve and Rose Kurtz Micjan.

Mr. Micjan was a 1956 graduate of Ellsworth High School.

He was a veteran, having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Micjan had been employed as a truck driver and belonged to Teamsters Local 872. He drove for Albert’s Packing and later Dravo, which became Stone and Co. of Charleroi, with 38 years of service, before retiring in 2000.

He was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Richeyville, where he served as an usher, and a member of Bentleyville American Legion Post 165, Richeyville Miner’s Club, Polish Club of Bentleyville, Daisytown Athletic Club and Cokeburg Moose Lodge 1625.

Mr. Micjan enjoyed hunting, gardening and his dogs, Bitsy and Harley.

On October 25, 1966, he married Bernice I. (Bernie) Weaver, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Shawn G. Micjan (Stephanie) of Daisytown; two grandchildren, Maddie Micjan and Jackie Cline; a brother, Mike Micjan Sr. (Barb) of Washington; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Dolores Sheets, who died July 12, 2010.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, with the Rev. Francis Jurewicz officiating.
