OBITUARY

Joseph Edward Ferris

 63-year member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church

Joseph Edward “Pap” Ferris, 75, of Washington, formerly of Lone Pine and Deemston Borough, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born June 17, 1935, in Deemston Borough, a son of the late Joseph McDonald and Ida Regester Ferris.

Mr. Ferris was a 1953 graduate of Centerville High School.

He was a self-employed dairy farmer, later became a truck driver for 39 years and retired from Ritchey Metals Co. in Hendersonville and Scenery Hill in 1998.

For 63 years, he was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He also was a member of Teamsters Local 872.

Mr. Ferris enjoyed spending time with his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, watching westerns, the Steelers and Pirates and antique farm equipment.

On September 17, 1954, he married Laura Marie Tate, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Grimm (Donald) of Washington; four sons, David Ferris of Latrobe, Alan Ferris (Donna) of Washington, Darryl Scott Ferris (Donna) of Macungie and William Ferris (Melissa) of Uniontown; seven grandchildren, Patrick Grimm (Eileen), Jason Grimm, Alan Michael Ferris, Katheryn Ferris, Lyndsey Gordon (Kyle), Joshua Ferris and Morgan Ferris; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, John (Jack) Ferris.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30, with the Rev. James Markley officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Mt. Zion Methodist Church, c/o P.O. Box 136, Beallsville, PA 15313.
