"Rev. Winnett was born Sept. 16, 1812, in Fallowfield Twp., Washington County, Pa., a son of Jonathan and Mary Wallace Winnett. He died Dec. 14, 1887, in West Newton, Westmoreland County, Pa. He married Nancy Mitchell on April 30, 1833, and Mrs. Eleanor McClelland Roberts on March 6, 1880. His children were Maria Winnett Hill, Delilah Ann Winnett, Mary Winnett Zellars, Clarissa Jane Winnett, Eliza Melvia Winnett Eagye, Dr. Hudson Josiah Winnett (Mayor of Lincoln, Neb.), Ann Jane Winnett, Virginia Mathilda Winnett Barnett, Ulery Stephen Winnett, and Frances Josephine Winnett Orr.

He was a farmer and a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church (a predecessor of the United Methodist Church). He was responsible for organizing or constructing sanctuaries for the following churches: Zollarsville Chapel at Old Zollarsville, Pa.; Hillsborough Methodist Church at Scenery Hill, Pa.; Winnett Chapel at Marianna, Pa. (2 different buildings); Liberty Chapel at Vankirk, Pa.; Brown's Chapel in Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Winnett Methodist Church in Smithton, Pa. He also served as pastor of the following churches: Davidson Chapel at Glyde, Pa.; McCandless Ave. Methodist church in Pittsburgh; and 3rd Methodist Church in McKeesport, Pa. He served for a year on the Beallsville Borough Council, where he lived for about 18 years on his farm."
