OBITUARY

Chester E. Silfies, 90, of Fredericktown (Deemston Boro) died Monday, May 25, 2009 in Lasosky’s Personal Care Home, Clarksville, PA. Mr. Silfies was born July 15, 1918 in Shell, WV, a son of the late Cecelia Kuhn Silfies. He was a coal miner for over 35 years and worked in J&L Vesta #5 Mine. He retired in 1976. Mr. Silfies was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his late wife. They often spent time at their camp in Smoke Hole, WV together. He also enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of his tomato plants. As with most area residents, he was an avid Steelers fan. He was a member of UMWA Local #762 in Vestaburg. On July 24, 1952 he married Wilma R. McNulty, who died on March 30, 1992. Surviving is one daughter, Jayne Silfies of Deemston Boro; and two sisters- Virginia Brown and her husband Matt of California, PA, and Eve Wiltrout of Washington, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his wife and mother, is one brother Reginald Silfies; and one sister- Hilda Stahl. Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 29, 2009 with Pastor John Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Beallsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Silfies family requests memorial donations be made to either the American Heart Association, 777 Penn Center Blvd, Suite 200, Pittsburgh PA, 15235 or the Greene County Humane Society, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg PA, 15370.
