OBITUARY

Alexander Antanovich, Jr. 91, of Scenery Hill, PA died Friday, September 12, 2014 in his home.
He was born November 16, 1922 in Cokeburg, PA a son of the late Alexander and Mary Oblasna Antanovich, Sr. 
Mr. Antanovich was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII serving with the 8th Air Force 34th Bomb Group and was a Ball Turret Gunner on board a B24 Liberator named L.O.N.I. in the European Theatre. After being shot down and missing in action for ten months he returned to his unit with the help of the Dutch Underground. For his services he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal in addition to many others.
He was employed as a Miner Operator for Bethlehem Mines Corporation at their Mine #60 in Eighty Four, PA for over24 years until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Antanovich was a longtime member of the Garwood Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir. He also was a member of the Washington County Metal Detectors Club, the Washington County Bottle Club, the United Mine Workers of America and the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post #705, Centerville where he actively participated with the Legion Honor Guard.
As a hobby he enjoyed playing with the Green Academy Dulcimer Group.
On July 14, 1945 he married Betty Porter Antanovich who died December 11, 1999.
Surviving is a daughter, Yvonne Baker (Neal) of Bentleyville, PA; one grandson, Neal Jordan Baker (Heather) of Suffolk, VA; one great grandson, Jordan Alexander Baker and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are two sons, Alexander Antanovich, III who died February 21, 1957 and David Antanovich who died December 20, 1968 and siblings, Walter, Esther and John Antanovich. He was the last of his immediate family.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. in the Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA where services will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Cliff Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. Military Rites will be accorded by Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post #705, Centerville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post #705, 1101 Old National Pike, Fredericktown, Pa 15333.
