George E. Zarlino Sr.

Longtime Ford Motor Co. employee was athlete, coach

George E. “Scorky” Zarlino Sr., 75, of Ellsworth, died Friday, May 6, 2011, in St. Joseph Hospital, Andover, Ohio.

He was born January 22, 1936, in Ellsworth, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Cartino Zarlino.

Mr. Zarlino was a 1955 graduate of Ellsworth High School.

For 38 years, he was employed by Ford Motor Co. at the Walton Hills Stamping Plant and was a member of United Auto Workers, Local 420.

A gifted athlete, he played semi-pro baseball and football and was an area coach for 20 years, coaching California High School girls softball and Cokeburg Little League baseball as well as many other teams. He was certified in sports safety training. He also enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are two sons, Raymond J. Zarlino and George E. Zarlino Jr., both of Ellsworth; three sisters, Clara Ramsey of Ellsworth, Frances Pistilli of Ellsworth and Joanne Marcini of Streetsboro, Ohio; four brothers, Joseph V. Zarlino of Bedford, Ohio, Donald Zarlino of Solon, Ohio, Ralph Zarlino of Parma, Ohio, and James Zarlino of Shalersville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Freda J. Simpkins Zarlino, who died November 22, 2010; a son, Troy A. Zarlino; and a sister, Catherine Smith.

Friends will be received from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, with the Rev. Gary Krummert officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery.
