John Robert “Cobb” Kennedy

John Robert “Cobb” Kennedy, 66 of Cokeburg, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born September 2, 1942 in Cokeburg a son of the late John and Bessie Snyder Kennedy. He spent five years working as an Air Traffic Controller at Kennedy Airport in New York before starting work as an underground miner at Mine #60 in Eighty Four in 1969. He retired in 1998 after 30 years of service with Consolidated Coal, previously Bethlehem Mines Corp. and Bethenergy. Cobb, as he was known to most, was a member of the Cokeburg Presbyterian Church for over 40 years and the Cokeburg Moose Lodge #1625, where he was a longtime officer. He was also a co-founder of the Bentworth Midget Football Program. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Donna Malone Kennedy whom he married January 22, 1971; three children, John “JK” Kennedy and his longtime girlfriend Denise Blackburn of Bentleyville; Richard “Woody” Kennedy and his wife Nikki and Coliene Kennedy both of Cokeburg; one brother, Eugene “Butch” Kennedy and one sister, Patricia Meyer and her husband George all of Cokeburg as well as several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are a sister, Jackie Kennedy Reese and a brother Thomas “TK” Kennedy. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM in the Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA where funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2009 with Rev. Ray Bruno officiating. Interment will be in the Beallsville Cemetery. Cokeburg Moose Lodge #1625 will conduct services in the funeral home Friday at 7:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to Hospice Care of The Washington Hospital, The Washington Hospital Foundation, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
