OBITUARY

Lindsey P. Gillis, 96 of Scenery Hill, PA (Beallsville Borough) died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the Donnell House, Washington, PA.
He was born January 7, 1919 in Centerville Borough, a son of the late Lindsey P. and Amelia Clever Gillis.
Mr. Gillis was a 1937 graduate of Beallsville High School. 
Self-employed, he owned and operated Gillis Insurance Agency, worked as a dairy farmer and later a beef farmer, raised and sold Christmas trees and worked as an agent for Century 21 and York Realty.
Mr. Gillis was a member of the I.O.O.F., the Deemston Grange, a charter member and instrumental in founding the National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association, a member of the Professional Insurance Agents, the Washington County Soil Association, former Beth Center School Board Member and former Beallsville Borough Councilman. It would be impossible to list all of the contributions Mr. Gillis has made to the surrounding communities, civic organizations and residents. 
Lindsey enjoyed talking about the economy and politics and loved his cat Painter. 
On October 9, 1947 he married Helen Leeper Gillis who died April 6, 2014.
Surviving are three sons, Jay Gillis of Beallsville, PA, Lee Gillis (Valerie) of Beallsville, PA and Barry Gillis (Debbie) of Deemston, PA; three grandchildren, Amy Matthews (Jim), Jana Plevel (Pat) and Logan Gillis; six great grandchildren, Christian, Kaylee and Lindsay Richardson, Jaymes Matthews, Patrick and Mason Plevel; three step grandchildren, Craig and Justin Mayton and Sam Ross; eight step great grandchildren, Carter Adam, Austin Kendall, Eric, Abigail, Larry, Troy, Sara and Ashton and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are a grandson, Alan Jay Gillis and brother, John Gillis. He was the last of his immediate family.

Friends will be received Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA where services will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Max Miller officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association, P.O. Box 181, Brownsville, PA 15417.
