OBITUARY

Mike Zwirek, 83, of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at HavenCrest Nursing Center, Monongahela.
He was born May 13, 1926 in Fallowfield Township, a son of Mike and Anna Potoczny Zwirek.
He attended Fallowfield Township Elementary and Ellsworth High School.
A veteran, Mr. Zwirek served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunners mate with the Navy Guard.
He retired from the former BethEnergy Mines and worked at mine 58 in Marianna.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Charleroi and the American Legion Post 165 of Bentleyville.
He celebrated 60 years of marriage with his wife, Lillian A. Nescott Zwirek on February 26, 1949. They were married at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Charleroi.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marsha L. Baker (the late Kirby Baker) of Ellsworth; a son, Michael Zwirek (Laura) of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Rachel Baker, Michael Paul Zwirek and Sarah Zwirek; a sister, Ann Zwirek of Bentleyville and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a granddaughter, Lisa Lynne Baker; a sister, Helen Erickson; brothers, Walter, John, Joe and Paul Zwirek.


Friends welcomed from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2009 with the Rev. Gregory Peterson, officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165 of Bentleyville.
