homas G. “Mike” Hughes, 87 of Marianna, PA died Monday, March 21, 2011 in his home.
He was born July 14, 1923 in Brownsville, PA a son of the late Glenn and Mary Gue Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and participated in the Battle of the Buldge.
For his services he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
In 1986, after 37 years of service, he retired from Bethlehem Mines Corp., Mine #58 where he last worked as a Hoisting Engineer.
Mr. Hughes was a 60 year member of the Zollarsville Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local #2874 and a lifetime member of the Steele-Lillie American Legion Post #744, Marianna.
He enjoyed golfing and took great pride in his lawn.
On May 7, 2004 he married Wilma D. Wyels Hughes who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Thomas H. Hughes (Carolyn) of Washington, PA; a daughter, Barbara Dulaney (Larry) of Marianna, PA; three grandchildren, Robert, Chad and Christopher Hughes; five great grandchildren; one brother, Howard Hughes of Charleroi, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is his first wife, Jessie Mae Sheets Hughes who died May 28, 2000. Also deceased are a grandson, Tommy Dulaney and two brothers, John and Robert Hughes.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 P.M. Thursday, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA where family and friends will gather at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 25, 2011 to proceed to the Zollarsville Chapel United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Gary Gregg officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. Full military rites will be accorded by the Steele-Lillie American Legion Post #744.
